S7GS - Chapter One
Darth walked quickly. His booted feet rang against the metal flooring of the warehouse. All was going to plan. He kept walking, two guards flanking him on either side, each with a semi-automatic firearm in hand. They burst forth through a set of double doors, the two guards flanking outwards to join the other guards throughout the warehouse. He walked towards the center of the overlarge room where a small table was set up a small computer set up.
"Do you have the product?" the client said a woman of no more than twenty years of age.
"Right here," Darth said, pulling a small disk from his left breast pocket and tossing it onto the table. One of his men took the disk and inserted it into the computer and brought up the information on it. The disk held information, and lots of it, listing over thirty crime lords in the entire city, save those involved in his organization.
"Is it complete?" the young woman asked, looking from the glowing screen at Darth.
"It is. Now, where is the payment?"
The woman snapped her fingers causing a man to startle forth and drop a briefcase onto the table and opening it. Inside were cold hard credits. The amount was around the range of thirty million. All was unmarked, making it easy to transfer as needed.
"Everything looks to be in order," Darth said, taking the briefcase and closing it. The woman began to smile making Darth uneasy. And now he knew why. The woman brought up her left hand and a small badge was in it.
"Everybody freeze! You're all under arrest for the illegal production of arms and information brokering," she said, causing all the men in the room to bring up their weapons. It was evenly matched on both sides. Darth smiled.
"No I'm not."
The woman looked at him oddly, then understood. Darth grabbed the handle of the briefcase and ran. The room erupted into a frenzy of red and blue bolts flying everywhere. Men dropped from being shot while others dove for cover. Darth, meanwhile, ran from the warehouse, running as quickly as possible. He heard footfalls clanging along behind him, suggesting he were being followed. It had been suggested that this transfer might be a sting, so all the names were enemies of his business. He'd get rid of them quickly. As Darth ran down the corridor, he could hear the screams of his men dropping dead. Damn cops.
As he exited through the rear entrance of the warehouse, a mid-sized black limousine was waiting. Darth ran to the vehicle, running around to the left side, and for good measure. The female cop had chased him out, and was now firing wildly at him, round after round exiting the chamber and flying at impossible speeds for Darth's now ducking head. He ducking into the car and began screaming "Go- Go!" at the top of his lungs, causing the car to screech forward. The female cop stood there, giving up the chase. She shook her head.
"Another day, then."
Inside the car, though, sat another man. Joshua Armanos.
"You messed this one up, too," Joshua said, not even blinking or turning his head towards Darth.
"Hey! It wasn't that bad! We made some cred's, got rid of some enemies. It all works out," Darth said, trying to explain himself.
"No, you messed up. You knew this was a sting, and you still went forward with it. I will not allow incompetence. You are now a loose end."
"Hey, hey, hey! Don't get all razzed up on me, here. I got hard cred's! Look!" Darth cried, opening the brief case, showing all the money inside. Joshua sneered. Darth looked up at Joshua, only to find the muzzle of a gun pointed at his forehead.
"You are a liability. One that I will take care of personally," Joshua said, and Darth began to try and explain himself further. A flash of pale blue light exploded from the barrel. Darth's body slumped forward, a smoking hole in his forehead, the barrel of Joshua's gun also smoking.
He closed the briefcase, rolled down the window, and tossed it outside. Money was never an issue. Incompetence was.
Joshua pressed a small button, opening up a compartment in the ceiling of his craft that dropper out a small blue light. Joshua began to run the light over Darth's body, destroying all evidence it might have on him, and his DNA. The good thing was the device only working on dead bodies, so there was no risk to himself. After several minutes, Joshua told the driver to turn right at the nearest alley. The vehicle ground to a halt. Joshua opened the door and kicked Darth's body out. He didn't care who found it. It couldn't be traced back to him.
"Back to the office," Joshua said, now that all his business was done. The car began moving again, hovering away from the scene of a slumped body that no longer had a face...
S7GS - Chapter Two
Kai stormed through the local department headquarters of Iskanth, fuming over the sting from earlier that day.
"Fucking shit!" she cried out. She was pissed. The sting had gone horribly wrong. Not only were all the names on the disk faked but in the last week they had found another dead body, and like all the others before it, it was unidentifiable, save a single shot to the forehead, which seemed to be the calling card of a certain somebody. Fingerprints, DNA, teeth, hair, face; all was destroyed. The only mark on the body was of a widely used Yirok, a gun that most everybody had. The only thing they could tell was that it was fired at close range, about two centimeters or so from the head. People were beginning to use "blue lights" as they were called, to destroy everything about the body so it couldn't be traced, but this man used it for every murder he committed, meaning there were more than a few smart criminals out there.
She briskly walked around the department fuming away about the sting. She finally reached Alenhas "Z" Derave's desk, the main secretary for the department, where he was 'typing' away, filling out more reports. He was on of the good cops left in her mind. Alenhas looked up at Kai, his eyes widening slightly, fearful of her anger and spite.
"What is it?" he asked tentatively, hoping not to incur her wrath, or further injunctions to it.
"Shut up! Just shut the fuck up!" Kai screamed at him, making Alenhas sink further into his 'chair,' trying to hide from Kai. The entire room went silent and began to look at her. She knew she had drawn attention to herself. When she felt she had everyone's attention, she yelled out "What're you looking at?"
Officers and criminals alike began to murmur among themselves, slowly quieting down. Kai's eyes blazed with her words, cautioning everyone around to leave her be and look the other way. The room began to return to normal, somewhat, but there was a definite change in the tone of voices of everyone within the room. Kai began to regain her calm, somewhat, and when Alenhas thought it safe, he began to speak.
"Uh, uh. Detective Kai?" he began, hoping that this test of courage on his part wouldn't anger her further.
"What?" she said in a sigh, turning her head toward Alenhas, lines of stress ringing her black eyes, and odd thing for a human, but no one questioned her about it.
"You've got a new partner."
"Oh, really? And why is that?" Kai said defiantly, not wanting another tag-along.
"Well, the department considers you a liability, somewhat, what with the fact that you get more men killed, your last partner included, in more sting operations than what our chief would like, so he's assigning you the new guy. To keep you out for a bit while you train him. You know, you can't keep killing off your partners and all. It's just not good police-work."
Kai looked at him with a suggestive glance making it clear that she didn't really care what command said, that she would follow her own rules because this force wouldn't even take down half the criminals because they were either hooked on their "product" or on their payment lists.
"So who's the new guy? Kai asked, looking Alenhas in the eyes.
"A, uh, Samuel, um, Duelist," he said, stuttering while reading the text off the screen with squinted eyes.
"And that is-?" Kai began, making Alenhas point in his direction.
There was a man with a slightly tanned complexion, with black hair. He wore mostly black, right down the to pair of runners on his feet, save for the lightly brown duffel in his right hand. He had a warmness to him, yet a stern side as well. Kai scowled.
"He looks like a wuss!"
"Don't be so quick!" Alenhas said quickly. "He, uh, said he was a really good man, great for this job!"
"Uh-huh," Kai said speculatively.
"Just talk to him. Maybe he'll be the perfect companion, I mean, err, partner for you," Alenhas spit out, hoping he had said it all correctly. He really hated talking to Kai, especially when she was in one of her 'moods'...
"Who's that other guy, the one with the feathery wings?" Kai asked, actually taking the time to see who and what was over there.
"Oh, him?" Alenhas said nonchalantly. "He's just some private investigator, who I think is more a bounty hunter, who just showed up a couple days ago. Said he was tracking some person from his world. Don't really know who, but he's also a tag-along of yours now, too."
Great. Now Kai had two people that she didn't need or want that would be her 'buddies' for the next couple days. Though she had to admit, the winged guy wasn't that bad a looker, if she ever saw one. What was she thinking, Kai couldn't get herself involved with these people. She had a job to do, and that was to track down a murderer.
Kai shook her head, than began to approach Samuel and the winged man. At her approach, both turned to look at her, as though sizing her up, as though she were the rookie.
"Let make one suggestion, stay out of my way," Kai said, her eyes blazing at the two. The winged man began to laugh, his face turning red slightly. She eyed him. "And what's so funny?"
"You," he said simply, "and the fact that if I wanted you eliminated, you would be by now."
Kai didn't like his tone. It wasn't a friendly one, or so she thought. The other two men exchanged humored looks and laughed. Kai did not like being laughed at, least of all by people who had yet to prove their worth. Kai quickly looked at the clock and saw that her shift was drawing to a close. For that, she was happy, but tomorrow, she would have to take these two out and show them the ropes, which she dread.
"My shifts over," Kai said simply, sternly, then turned and walked away. Samuel thought he could almost see wisps of steam rising from her head...
